There are many ways that you can become healthier and more physically fit. Some methods are more time consuming and some will seem more realistic. In 2015, let’s have fun with our health! Every day we have countless opportunities to make health conscious progress. Keeping a solid attitude and an optimistic mindset will enable you to be successful no matter what challenges you may encounter.  Here are some simple ways to make 2015 your best year yet.


1. Work out three days a week

Plan to exercise at least three days each week. This can be walking or jogging around the neighborhood, going to the gym, riding a bike or even working out at home. Being more active will consistently improve how you feel and will make everyday stresses more manageable.


2. Cut out sweets five days a week

Make it a habit to limit sugary snacks during the week. It is OK to cheat every now and then, but your body will thank you if you can learn to exercise better self control. When you do eat sweets, try to keep those snacks as healthy as you possibly can. Beware of GMOs and other sneaky sugar substitutes.


3. Venture outdoors

Gather a group of friends to accompany you for a weekend full of camping, hiking, canoeing and more. Get out and explore the great outdoors. There are tons of activities that can be done under the sun and enjoyed at little to no cost. Search for state parks or even places that aren’t as popular. It is highly likely that you could benefit from an adventure into the wild. Becoming more familiarized with nature may be the positive experience that you’ve been needing all along. 


4. Take a yoga class once a week

Our jobs and careers require our full and focused attention. Some of us may feel that high demands at work leave us with little or no energy when the day is done. Yoga allows us to use our energy for healing, power and strength. Taking a class at least once a week may help you relax and meet people who are also seeking to improve their holistic health.


5. Plant a garden

Surrounding yourself with plentiful fruits and vegetables can help determine how you eat. Growing and harvesting nutritious foods will likely influence you to consume healthier meals at home and abroad. Visit your local nursery to acquire the best plants and materials for your new garden. By putting forth a little bit of effort, you will not only save money, but will also experience the satisfaction of growing your own produce.


6. Hire a personal trainer

Perhaps you have heard about an awesome trainer who could help you achieve a fitter and happier life. Now is the time to acquire that extra help and make the further commitment to your health. Personal trainers are exercise experts and serve as excellent motivators, educators and coaches who will assist you with achieving specific fitness goals.


7. Paint, dance and create

We should all seek to express ourselves in whatever ways seem most natural. Being mentally and physically active allow us to maximize our healthy human potential. Life is full of surprises and unavoidable stresses that add to the importance of creativity. Whether it’s painting, dancing or even inventing, be sure to allot time for yourself. Your body, mind and soul are all components of your health, and you should not neglect any of them.


8. Limit alcohol during the week

Let’s make it a habit to drink only on the weekends. Cutting out drinking Monday through Thursday will not only save you money, but will also improve your well-being. In addition to having more energy and a stronger metabolism, your ability to make health-conscious decisions will improve tremendously.


9. Eat a rainbow of foods every day

It is suggested that healthy adults eat a wide variety of colorful foods throughout the course of a day. Greater variability in food color tends to correspond to eating more fruits and vegetables. As a general rule, try to eat fruits and/or vegetables with every meal. Your body will thank you for giving it the fuel that it needs. If you do not have time to care for a garden of your own, be sure to buy the highest quality foods that you can find. 


10. Join a bootcamp

If you are more of a group exercise person, then you should consider joining a boot camp program. Groups of fitness enthusiasts just like you are gathering early in the morning, on weekends and even after work to exercise. Co-motivation and accountability are a couple key factors, which make Bootcamp so successful.

You have taken the initial step toward better health just by reading this article. Your first mission is to make a list of adventures you would like to experience throughout 2015. Be brave and realistic and know that the harder you work, the more successful you will be. In order to feel success, you must truly enjoy the work that you do. The more exciting something seems, the less it actually feels like work. Work smarter, eat better and keep moving. Most importantly: Learn to have fun with everything you do.
