Spring is in full bloom and with it comes lots of fresh fruit and vegetables ready to be made into refreshing smoothies. Whether you want to melt away few pounds, recover from a late night or just nourish your precious body, a quick smoothie is always a great idea and beneficial on so many levels. We're sure your cells and taste buds will love these three colorful smoothie recipe ideas with a little twist.
Remove the pits from the dates and the leaves of the strawberries. Put all the fruit into a blender, and top with oats, coconut flakes and vanilla. Add 1 to 1.5 cups of almond or any plant-based milk, depending on the texture you're looking for. Blend until smooth and enjoy! Although this recipe has some high-sugar fruit in it, your blood sugar won't spike much thanks to the almond milk and oats. The starch will give you some steady energy and keep you full longer.
Chop up the kale and remove the stems. Put in a blender, along with the other ingredients and blend until smooth. This is the perfect post-workout smoothie because it offers a nice amount of protein and calcium, which is made bioavailable by the added lemon. The Vitamin A found in leafy greens can be absorbed because of the fat from the flaxseed. This smoothie is also incredibly beneficial if you're feeling under the weather since the Vitamin C of the lemon combined with the ginger can help fight off any cold.
Chop the fruit in medium-sized pieces and put them into a blender. Add your favorite plant-based milk (in this case, we used almond and coconut) along with a pinch of vanilla and blend until smooth. Immediately enjoy this tropical delight. It will catapult you right to the beach (at least in your mind), thanks to the mango-pineapple-coconut combo. And who could resist a little imaginary vacation?
