But there’s a whole world of non-food/green-focused subscriptions out there. Here are six that will feed other aspects of your life.
Price: Starting at $18/month
Humans are not the only species who enjoy a surprise care package every month. Signing your pup up for BarkBox will get him a monthly box with four or more products, including toys, bones, all-natural treats, hygiene products and new gadgets. You will also be prompted to choose the size of your dog, so your 3-pound Chihuahua doesn’t receive a 20-pound chew toy. In addition, BarkBox will give 10% of all proceeds to a local shelter or rescue.
Price: Starting at $19.99/month for 12 months
No one likes a good surprise quite like a child. But parents can also feel good about this subscription box, thanks to its educational angle. SparkPlay is an “educational play-based learning tool rooted in a more authentic, timeless sense of play,” according to the website. Each box contains a themed SparkPlay Adventure Play Pack filled with “imagination igniters” and with a video clip of tips on that month’s play.
Love making your own accessories? Sign up for Chic Maker. The monthly subscription contains a “trendy” DIY jewelry kit, which includes step-by-step tutorial guides. The company promises you’ll have homemade jewelry in less than 45 minutes.
If you’re a runner
Give your running routine a boost with StrideBox, which includes six to eight “curated samples of performance products to enhance your active lifestyle.” The box will contain such products as nutritional bars, gels, drinks, snacks, apparel, gadgets, skin care, health, apps and music, as well as other accessories. And you don’t have to be an Olympic athlete to benefit from StrideBox. “Whether you’re just a recreational runner, training for your first 5k, shooting for a PR in your next 13.1 or headed to the Boston Marathon with the elites, you’ll find each monthly edition of StrideBox will enhance your training, workout or race needs,” according to the website. (At press time, StrideBox was sold out for April. Join the wait list here.)
