An HIV test with your flu shot?

June 26, 2012

HIV TestingWalgreens offered free HIV testing in 20 cities yesterday as part of National HIV Testing Day, launching a new program that could change HIV testing as we know it.

Until now, one would have to go to an unfamiliar (and often embarrassing) free clinic to get an HIV test, or be tested at a doctor’s office at a price.

The free testing services at Walgreens was the first phase in a two-year program that the Centers for Disease Control will use to develop a model for developing similar services at pharmacies and in-store clinics in areas most affected by HIV.

About 1.1 million people in the United States are living with HIV, but nearly 1-in-5 don’t know they have it, according to the CDC.
