Creamy doesn't have to mean fatty. Healthy chef Anthony Stewart at the Pritikin Longevity Center developed a super satisfying creamy salsa recipe that uses plain nonfat yogurt to take your usual salsa up a notch. If you're craving a creamy dip but don't want the guilt, grab some whole-grain tortilla chips and try this. It's only 20 calories per serving!
½ cup plain nonfat yogurt
4 tablespoons reduced-fat sour cream
2 finely chopped green onions (white and light-green parts only)
½ teaspoon ground cumin
2/3 cup bottled salsa (non-chunky varieties)
Jalapeno Hot Sauce (for those who want to take it up a notch):
5 fresh jalapeno peppers, stems removed
1 ½ tablespoons chopped garlic
1 ½ shallots, chopped
1 ½ cups white balsamic vinegar
1 ½ tablespoons prepared horseradish
¼ bunch cilantro, leaves removed from stems
Combine all ingredients in the food processor and blend for 5 minutes.
Mix all ingredients.
Serve with whole wheat tortilla chips or cut up veggies.
