Maybe you’re a bit cooking illiterate. Maybe you’re lazy. Maybe you just don’t have time to prepare a full-course meal for your family.
Well, now you have no excuse, thanks to Plated.com.
Here’s how the site works:
Choose a recipe created by the site’s chefs; there are new menus every week.
The company gets all the ingredients needed for your chosen recipe in — score! — pre-measured portions. The ingredients are delivered to you in a custom-made biodegradable, 100% recyclable box that keeps the food fresh. Plated deliveries will remain fresh for a week.
Receive the ingredients and start cookin’. Plated assures that each meal only takes 30 minutes or less to make, and a typical meal contains about 600 to 800 calories.
Once you’ve decided which meal to choose, the site tells you how long you have to actually purchase it. For instance, the grilled steak with red-wine-onion marmalade and farro-vegetable salad is available for six more days at press time for delivery June 25. When you click on “See recipe details,” the site shows you the ingredients for one plate, calorie count, prep time and difficulty.
The site does assume that you have certain ingredients on hand, including eggs, salt, pepper, olive oil, vegetable oil and butter.

Plated is currently available on the east coast from Washington, D.C., to Boston. However, the company promises that it will be expanding nationally over the next year. Enter your ZIP code here to see if Plated delivers to you.
Prices start at $10 per plate.
