Meal plans have been a boon to people who want to eat healthy and delicious home-cooked meals. Unfortunately, people with restricted diets may shy away from them, especially since they aren’t necessarily tailored to specific medical issues. But now people with pre- and Type 2 diabetes can enjoy a bit of convenience with Diet-to-Go’s recently launched meal plan specifically created for them.
The 25-year-old Northern Virginia-based diet food delivery company's Balance-D Diabetes meal plan follows the American Diabetes Association's nutritional guidelines. It also addresses the challenge people with the condition face when it comes to knowing what to eat, proper portion sizes and how to fit healthy eating into their busy lives.
Monitoring diabetes or prediabetes can be difficult for people with the condition and their healthcare providers, according to the American Diabetes Association's newly released 2016 Standards of Care.
William H. Herman, professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of Michigan and chair of the Association's Professional Practice Committee, says the need to cohesively outline goals and treatment in accordance with today's challenges is an ongoing dilemma faced by people who have Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.
"People with diabetes, their families and their healthcare providers are constantly challenged to achieve diabetes treatment goals," he says.
Diet-to-Go offers 5-day and 7-day meal plans that include breakfast, lunch and dinner, or lunch and dinner only. They are also low in sodium (1400 mg per day on average) and have an average 30 grams of sugar per day.
