This futuristic thermostat responds to voice commands

Too cold or hot? Too tired to get up, walk across the room and change the thermostat? We won’t judge, but we will introduce you to a new voice-activated thermostat that will allow you to be as lazy as you want and still make your home super comfy — at least in terms of temperature.

The new Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control uses advanced far-field voice technology that breaks through the ambient noise in the home. Switch the thermostat on from across the room by saying "Hello, thermostat." Then change the temperature with such commands as "make it 4 degrees warmer" or "make it much cooler."

“Most homeowners know the feeling of coming through the front door while juggling bags of groceries, a stack of mail and keys to a less-than-comfortable temperature,” said Tony Uttley, general manager of Home Comfort and Energy Systems at Honeywell. “With this hands-free advancement, homeowners can simply speak to their thermostat, and it responds by adjusting the environment to their preferences. We believe the next generation of advancements in connected home technology means people don’t have to be tied to their devices. Instead, Honeywell devices are truly an extension of their lifestyle.”

The thermostat is programmed to recognize the homeowner's voice upon installation and can recognize more commands over time based on previous interactions. It also offers the opportunity to regulate and monitor energy usage through smartphones with the Total Connect Comfort app.

The thermostat will be available beginning November 2013 at a suggested retail price of $349. To purchase, visit Lowes.com, HomeDepot.com, Amazon.com or BestBuy.com.
