Caring for your skin can seem like a full-time job, but with the appropriate regimen and products, the process can go from a boring routine to a luxurious ritual.

First thing’s first, when you use products based on natural ingredients versus chemically based ingredients, the entire process is much easier and more streamlined. All skin needs cleansing, exfoliation, hydration and sun protection to varying degrees. The power of using products crafted with natural ingredients to treat skin is that they are formulated to correct issues by restoring optimal health to the skin, strengthening the ability to regenerate and maintain balance.

As with your health, when treating your skin, it’s best to look at the whole picture. Are you eating healthfully, drinking adequate water and getting enough sleep? It’s also a good idea to adjust your skincare routine and products depending on the season; weather; and related environmental conditions, like heaters or air conditioning.

Looking at skin through the same holistic prism, these superpower ingredients are as good for your skin as they are for your health, working to restore balance to any skin type and condition.

One favor you can do for your skin regardless of its type or condition is to mist it regularly with plant hydrosols, the fragrant waters that are steamed out of plants during essential oil distillation. Containing lower but still powerful concentrations of the plant’s healing attributes than the essential oil, hydrosols are naturally antibacterial and contain trace minerals that are anti-inflammatory and calming. One of my favorites for “watering your skin” is Beaute Nouveau’s Flower Water ($26), which adds extra trace minerals to their organic hydrosol mist.

To deeply moisturize dry skin, I recommend an overnight facial mask. Look for one with healthy oils rich in essential fatty acids (EFA’s), such as olive oil, sunflower seed oil, and pomegranate and berry seed oils for deep hydration. EFAs also repair damaged cells and boost their ability to for your skin to resist dryness. One that I think is exceptional is Bottega Organica’s brand new Restorative Mask Formula ($116), orange. It is based on 100% organic olive oil from their farm in Italy and is boosted with moisturizing shea butter, skin repairing carrot seed oil and calming chamomile.

For every day, Artic Berry Cloud Milk Cream ($54) by Red Flower is the universal wonder cream. The ingredients are a long list of dry skin-fighting superpowers, such as EFA-rich strawberry and cloudberry seed extracts; avocado oil, vitamin E that repairs collagen and smooth lines; organic honey that is a humectant, which attracts and retains moisture in your skin; and one of my favorites, rose oil that is readily absorbed into the skin to hydrate it but improves your cells' natural health and immunity. It is a wonder cream because you can use it anywhere, and it works on dry skin and can even be used to treat eczema and psoriasis. Use on the face, hands, feet, chest and anywhere you have dry skin.
