New online marketplace makes bike rentals hassle-free

Spinlister is a new online marketplace that lets bike owners (or local bike shops) rent their bikes to travelers, cyclists or locals looking to explore more than 400 cities in 80 countries. It launched in New York City and San Francisco in April, and recently opened up a national beta program.

A typical day-rental costs $18 for the average bike, but will cost more depending on the type of bike. We've spotted everything from mountain, road, vintage, BMX, kids, even high-end professional road racing bikes and unicycles! Because of this variety, Spinlister is a great service for those who want to test ride different makes and models before buying a new bike.

How it works

For bike owners, it's easy to list a bike and earn cash. After filling out details and submitting photos of your sweet chariot, within 24 to 48 hours (after Spinlister checks for quality, price and accuracy), your bike will be ready for rent.

It’s easy for bike renters, too! Simply search by location, bike size and type to get a list of available bikes near you. From there, you can request a rental from the bike's owner and ask questions. Once the lister approves your request, you can go pick up your bike!

Spinlister guarantees that if your bike is damaged or stolen during a rental period and the renter is unable to reimburse you for the fair value of your bike, they will cover the cost up to $5,000. Also, since renters are required to enter a valid credit card in order to rent a bike, if the bike is returned late or damaged, Spinlister will charge the credit card to cover the costs for you.
