Global men's health charity Movember uses the power of the mustache to raise awareness and funds for men’s health to combat prostate and testicular cancer. This month — in addition to growing a badass 'stache in November to raise awareness for men's health issues — they challenge guys to MOVE by hosting or attending an active event or making a month-long pledge to be more active and sit less.
According to Movember’s website, men who sit more than six hours a day have an 18% increased risk of dying from heart disease and a 7.8% increased chance of dying from diabetes, compared with someone who sits for three hours or less a day. Also, on a global scale, 5.3 million deaths will be attributed to physical inactivity. Frightening!
“Researchers have linked sitting for long periods of time with a number of health concerns, including obesity and metabolic syndrome — a cluster of conditions that includes increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels," says James Levine, a Mayo Clinic endocrinologist. "Too much sitting also seems to increase the risk of death from cardiovascular disease and cancer."

Whatever you choose to do, the important thing is that men need to take charge of their health. Being active, along with eating healthy, is one of the best ways to prevent diseases like prostate cancer (the second-leading cause of cancer death in men) and testicular cancer (most common cancer in American males between the ages of 15 and 34.)
