The hula-hoop fad is as cyclical as the device itself, always coming and going with each generation. Alas, a new wave of hula-hooping is making its way across the country – and it’s focused on fitness as much as fun. Even the First Lady is in on it.
In an interview on the Rachael Ray Show, Michelle Obama revealed two of her favorite fun fitness activities: “If I do have a talent, it is hula-hooping. I can hula-hoop forever. And I’ve been a hula-hooper since I was little. That and double dutch.”
President Obama says his wife “is the best hula-hooper I know. Once she gets the rhythm going, she can drop it to her knees.”
Hula-hooping is a low-impact exercise that’s affordable, simple to learn and easy to incorporate into one’s daily lifestyle. Just half an hour in the hoop can torch 200 to 300 calories, making it an ideal workout for busy professionals and stay-at-home parents who have difficulty finding time for the gym.
As a tribute to the First Lady and her dedication to improving the health and the lives of the American people, fitness hoop company Hoopnotica is offering a 10% discount on all purchases on the site with the code “MOBAMA” now through the end of September.
In addition to a wide variety of hoops, Hoopnotica sells DVDs, CDs and books dedicated to hoop fitness. Choose from yoga flow and hoop dance, to hooping through pregnancy.
