By skipping just one meal this Thanksgiving season, you can help raise awareness — and funds — for the chronic malnutrition and hunger that affects more than 850 million people worldwide.
Oxfam America, an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice, is asking that you pledge to skip one meal and donate the money you save to help Oxfam create solutions to hunger.
Traditionally, Oxfam supporters choose to skip a meal on the Thursday before Thanksgiving, but you can choose any day you like.
To participate, simply skip a meal and contribute the money you save to Oxfam. Sign up here.
Skip a meal is part of Oxfam’s Fast for a World Harvest program. For more than 30 years, Oxfam America's has reached out to communities all over the United States to help raise awareness about the root causes of poverty and hunger. Fast participants choose to skip a meal, host an Oxfam Hunger Banquet or organize other creative and educational events.
“The Fast is a unique experience because while participants are raising awareness of poverty and hunger to help build community on the global level, they are strengthening their own communities at the local level," said Nancy Delaney, Oxfam America's National outreach manager. "Skip a Meal for Oxfam is an easy way for individuals and families to incorporate making a difference on these issues into their daily lives."
