Winter is finally showing its hand, particularly if you happen to be on the East coast, still digging out after Winter Storm Jonas. Even if you’re not encountering piles of slush and mounds of snow everywhere, the short days and lack of sunlight can still take their toll. Don’t you wish you can go somewhere and just forget that it’s dingy and miserable outside? Look no further than your bathroom. Try relaxing in a tub with one of these dreamy bath soaks and bring some happiness and comfort into your life.
Epsom salt is a total bathroom workhorse, useful in a multitude of ways, but many of us rely on it as a cheap way to soothe sore muscles and have a relaxing, no-frills soak. If you’d like to add aromatherapy to your Epsom salt soak, Dr. Teal’s has a number of formulations to suit your needs. Dr. Teal’s soaks come in a variety of scents such as lavender and eucalyptus and spearmint, but chamomile might just be my favorite scent of all. Dr. Teal’s also sells big bags of plain ole Epsom salt as well, if you’re not into the scented stuff.
Give your muscles a tropical vacation with this affordable, indulgent soak. The fruity floral scent is gorgeous but powerful, so a little bit of this goes a long way. Just a handful will have your bathroom smelling like heaven. While hanging out in the bath for too long can dry out your skin, this blend of Dead Sea and Epsom salts actually helps to moisturize and improve dry, winter-tough skin with organic shea butter, organic coconut oil and vitamin E. Shea Moisture does include this caution statement on this product: “Please be careful. Herbs or essential oils might remain in the tub. Not recommended for people with high blood pressure; or lactating or pregnant women.”
This is more than just your average body wash. It is not only free of parabens and sulfates, but its creamy lather also works as a regular body wash and as a luxurious bubble bath. Just pump a bit under running water and watch your tub fill with foamy bubbles. Organic ingredients such as shea butter, raspberry butter, aloe, cucumber extract and marigold soothe and moisturize. You can actually feel your skin softening as you soak. This bath gel comes in several scrumptious scents such as pomegranate, lavender and lemongrass, but my favorite has got to be coconut. It smells exactly like the coconut ices of my youth and brings a touch of carefree summer to this dull, drab winter.
You can’t help but smile when you unwrap a little slice of bubble bath heaven from Lush. There are several varieties, but the charmingly twee Bubbleroons, bubble bars meant to evoke macarons that contain moisturizing fillings, are the perfect little pieces of adorableness that will brighten up your day. (And yes, you can use one half at a time, making these cuties good for two baths.) The Rose Jam bubbleroon fragrance is as close to real rose as you can get. This tiny treat moisturizes with cocoa and shea butters and also contains soothing rose absolute. Not into roses? Try the Yuzu and Cocoa, a chocolate orange fragrance containing fresh bananas, and Green, which contains citrus and juniperberry oils, avocado butter and honey. If you’re a fan of big, fluffy bubbles (and aren’t averse to sodium laureth sulfate, which Lush uses in these products), these will make you feel like a kid again. This is the original magical fizzy wonder. There is something so joyful and exciting about seeing these effervescent miracle workers swirl around in the tub, creating a colorful oasis where you can escape the gray outdoors. Need more incentive to try the seductive, jasmine-scented Sex Bomb? In addition to its cheerful fizziness, this bath bomb turns your bath water the most luscious shade of pink and moisturizes with soy milk. Valentine’s Day is almost here, so getting a little jump start on all things sexy certainly doesn’t hurt.
Remember to take care when getting in and out of the tub, and let these sumptuous soaks transport you to your happy place.
