Treat your body right with some spa time

December 14, 2011

As much as we try to stay healthy all-year round, let’s be honest with ourselves here: The holidays are a time for eating, drinking and all other sorts of revelry that might wreak a bit of havoc on our bodies.

So, what better way to use that week off than to get away to a nice, relaxing, detoxing spa to rejuvenate and feel refreshed for the New Year? Below are some of our recommendations. Feel free to share your own favorite “aaah” spots as well!

Week-long getaways
Canyon Ranch (CanyonRanch.com) offers a destination experience, with a focus on fitness, nutrition, stress management and integrative wellness. With locations in Tucson, Ariz.; Lenox, Mass.; and Miami Beach, Fla., Canyon Ranch is easy to get to from anywhere in the States.

Feel like leaving all your worries and stresses an ocean away (and have some money to spend)? Book a last-minute trip to the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa (BlueLagoon.com) in Iceland. Bask in the geothermal seawaters of the Blue Lagoon, known for their positive effects on the skin. If you need someone to go with you, this Looks editor is totally up for it. Just kidding … Not really.

Day trips
Don’t have a full week to soak away? Book a treatment at Bliss Spa (BlissWorld.com). With more than 10 different body treatment options and several add-ons, as well as 14 massage choices, your aaah-inducing moment is sure to melt away any stress you had coming in. With U.S. locations in New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Hoboken, N.J., Hollywood, L.A., San Fran, Scottsdale, South Beach and D.C., there’s bound to be one somewhere near you that’s worth a day-trip.

Though this is a bit area-specific, Apothecary Wellness – Holistic Wellness Spa & Boutique (Apothecary-Wellness.com), left an awesome impression on this Primpetor when I visited Baltimore earlier this year. The spa is all about a holistic approach to massage therapy and wellness, and makes it a point to provide an eco-friendly environment that focuses on working “with the client as opposed to working on the client,” according to the spa’s website.

Let us know how you’re treating your body right this holiday season and into the New Year.
