Why ‘simple’ should be your skin care mantra
With so many face washes out there touting this and that benefit, how do you go about knowing which routine is best to keep that physiognomy of yours looking and feeling its best? (We used a big word, are you impressed? We thought so.)
According to a recent article from USA Today, your best bet is KEEP IT SIMPLE!
Especially if you have “normal” skin, there’s no need to scour the shelves for that extra-strength wash with the scrubbing grains and fruity scent. Instead, find a good, gentle face soap that works for you. Dermatologists interviewed by USA Today recommended that whatever the form your preferred cleanser takes, it should be formulated for the face (not the body) and should NOT contain deodorant, antiseptics or fragrance.
Yes, guys, that means you probably should buy a separate bar of soap to wash your mug with. Leave it by the sink and keep your body bar in the shower to avoid confusion.
If you have oily skin, you might need to look into slightly stronger formulations. This Primpetor personally prefers the Clinique 3-step skin care routine of liquid facial soap, clarifying lotion and moisturizing lotion. According to the skin care brand’s website, the process is as follows:
- Step 1: Cleanse
Non-drying formulas leave all skins feeling fresh, clean, comfortable. - Step 2: Exfoliate
Sweeps away pollution, excess oil, dulling flakes to reveal fresher skin. - Step 3: Moisturize
Gives skin the “drink” it needs to maintain optimal moisture balance.
When I first purchased the products, the Clinique consultant suggested I use them in the morning and evening because of my skin type. After a while I found that my skin was dryer than I liked, so I switched to one time per day (evenings), which worked much better. AND they have travel-sized products available too!
But that’s just my preference. Find what works best for your skin and stick to that routine. Just remember: Keep it simple. And don’t forget to moisturize after cleansing — use a moisturizer with sun protection in the morning.
What products are your favs?

I wash my face in the shower, once a day, with whatever soap or gel I am using there. I don’t scrub, I don’t obsess. I splash my face in the morning with cold water. I use sunscreen every morning. THAT’S IT. I have no more or fewer wrinkles or zits than any of my friends who use a 3-, 5-, or 12-step Facial Program. Here’s to simplicity.
This is all very new to me and this article really opened my eyes. Thanks for sharing with us your wisdom.
I will also like to say that most of those that find themselves with no health insurance are typically students, self-employed and those that are unemployed. More than half from the uninsured are under the age of Thirty-five. They do not feel they are requiring health insurance as they are young and healthy. Their own income is usually spent on property, food, in addition to entertainment. A lot of people that do work either full or as a hobby are not offered insurance by way of their work so they head out without due to rising valuation on health insurance in the country. Thanks for the ideas you share through this site.
